In 2023, Belarus to reduce gas consumption by 12%

The consumption of natural gas in Belarus in 2023 will amount to 16.7 bcm against 19 bcm in 2022 (a decrease of 12%), said the Minister of Energy of the republic Viktor Karankevich. In January-July of this year, natural gas consumption in the country decreased by 15%, to 9.4 bcm, mainly due to the operation of the Belarusian NPP. Since the inclusion of the first power unit into the power system (November 3, 2020), the station has generated 18.5 billion kWh of electricity, which allowed replacing about 5 bcm of gas. “With the commissioning of the second power unit, the nuclear power plant will generate the same amount of electricity annually, which will ensure the replacement of 4.5-5 bcm of gas per year,” the minister said
