Hong Kong’s Cathay to Roll Out Direct Flights to Kazakhstan as Part of Network Growth

Baku: Hong Kong’s Cathay Airways is set to launch direct flights to Kazakhstan, marking a strategic expansion of its network as it integrates new aircraft into its fleet. The announcement follows a series of negotiations on air service development between the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Hong Kong Transport and Logistics Bureau.

According to Trend News Agency, the discussions resulted in an increase in weekly flight allocations for carriers from both countries, rising from 7 to 14, with 7 flights enjoying fifth freedom privileges. This development will allow Kazakhstani carriers to utilize the operational facilities of Hong Kong Airport, while reciprocally providing Hong Kong airlines access to Kazakhstan’s aviation infrastructure.

The enhancement of regulatory frameworks and the resumption of aerial operations are expected to drive forward the growth of trade, economic collaboration, business activities, and tourism relations between Kazakhstan and Hong Kong.

Cathay Airways, recognized as one of the largest passenger and cargo airlines globally, serves over 100 destinations worldwide. The airline’s fleet exceeds 170 aircraft, and plans are underway for further expansion to support its growing network.

The Fifth Freedom Rights, as defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), allow an airline to transport passengers or cargo between two foreign countries, provided the flight originates or concludes in the airline’s home nation.
