Hikmet Hajiyev: Azerbaijan is Seeking Clarity Regarding Fate of Thousands of Individuals Reported Missing

Khankendi: ‘For nearly three decades, Azerbaijan has been awaiting clarification on the fate of thousands of missing persons, whose families continue to seek answers,’ said Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, to journalists.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Hikmet Hajiyev emphasized that during the period of occupation, thousands of Azerbaijani citizens were captured or taken hostage due to Armenia’s military aggression. The fate of approximately 4,000 missing persons remains unknown, the majority of whom are civilians.

Hajiyev highlighted that the International Committee of the Red Cross gathered some information but was unable to fully complete its work in line with its mandate. He also mentioned that Azerbaijan has made requests to Armenia through various channels, including civil society representatives, as families continue to await information about their missing loved ones.
