The “grey eminence” of Turkmen politics, Viktor Khramov, retired in August after suffering a stroke. According to turkmen.news, Kakageldy Charyardurdyev, a former press secretary of the head of state, has been appointed in his place.

Viktor Khramov was the last of three influential people who have been in the inner circle of Turkmen presidents since the first years of independence, the online edition reports.

According to the source, Khramov remained in a high position, although he had recently suffered a stroke. His legs began to fail recently, and he lost the ability to move without assistance. He was finally pensioned off at the beginning of August 2023.

The former press secretary of the head of state, Kakageldy Charyardurdyev, became the presidential assistant instead of Viktor Khramov. Official media reported that he was fired “due to a transfer to another job.” It is clarified that for now Charyardurdyev is in acting status.
