Global Stock Markets See Mixed Performance with Notable Gains in U.S. and Germany


New York: The main indices of the world stock markets displayed a mix of gains and losses on May 8, with significant upward movements observed in the United States and Germany, while the UK experienced a decline. In the U.S. stock markets, the Dow Jones index increased by 0.62% to reach 41,368.45 points. The SandP 500 index also saw an increase of 0.58%, climbing to 5,663.94 points. The Nasdaq index experienced the most substantial growth among the U.S. indices, rising by 1.07% to 17,928.14 points.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, European stock markets showed varied results. The FTSE 100 index in the UK decreased by 0.32%, closing at 8,531.61 points. Conversely, Germany’s DAX index rose significantly by 1.02%, closing at 23,352.69 points, indicating robust performance in the German market. Meanwhile, France’s CAC-40 index also saw a notable increase of 0.89%, reaching 7,694.44 points, signaling positive investor sentiment in France.



In the global currency markets, the euro-to-dollar exchange rate experienced a modest rise. The exchange rate increased by 0.12%, bringing it to USD 1.1242, reflecting a slight strengthening of the euro against the dollar.
