Global regions urgently need climate action – UN climate chief

BAKU: All global regions need immediate climate measures, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Simon Stiell stated, Trend reports.

During an online high-level dialogue on “Enhancing Climate Transparency Through Universal Participation in the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF)” held in Baku, Stiell delivered a persuasive speech advocating for prompt climate actions in all regions worldwide.

Stiell highlighted the urgent requirement for focused climate policies to expedite the “green” transition and enhance resilience in all sectors globally. He highlighted the importance of biennial transparency reports (BTR) in these processes.

“These reports will provide a robust evidence base for setting national priorities, refining climate policies, and securing the funding needed for effective action,” he stated.

In addition, he provided a detailed explanation of how BTRs enable countries to effectively monitor progress, validate the achievement of goals, and pi
npoint areas that require further action and support.

“Transparency enables countries to learn from each other and support climate actions that benefit everyone. To ensure that all can fully benefit from climate transparency, we have closely collaborated with the COP29 presidency over the past year,” he added.
