Georgia Buys More Gas from Russia Than Azerbaijan for the First Time in 18 Years


Tbilisi: For the first time in 18 years, the volume of natural gas imported by Georgia from Russia has exceeded the volume of gas imported from Azerbaijan.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, citing the National Statistics Office of Georgia, this shift in energy imports was observed in the first quarter of 2025.



In the period from January to March 2025, Georgia spent USD 183.048 million on natural gas. Of this total, USD 100.647 million, accounting for 55% of the total supply, was allocated to gas imports from Russia. In comparison, imports from Azerbaijan amounted to USD 82.401 million.
