New york: Foreign Minister Bayramov met with the UN Secretary-General on the sidelines of a UN Security Council open debate focused on maintaining international peace and security. The discussion emphasized upholding the UN Charter and strengthening the UN-centered international system.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting included a review of the bilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the United Nations, as well as the evolving security situation in the South Caucasus. Minister Bayramov highlighted Azerbaijan’s productive partnership with the UN and its specialized agencies. Both parties praised the successful hosting of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum in Baku from May 17 to 22.
The conversation also addressed Azerbaijan’s strategic connectivity with Central Asia and its role as an expanding regional transport and logistics hub. Minister Bayramov briefed the UN Secretary-General on post-conflict realities, detailing ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction projects aimed at ensuring the safe return of former internally displaced persons to their homes. He also outlined steps toward normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and addressed the humanitarian threat posed by unmapped landmines in the liberated territories.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other regional and international issues of mutual interest.
