Baku: The First General Assembly of the Global South NGO Platform (GSNP) has successfully concluded its work, as announced by the newly appointed Secretary-General, Fuad Karimli. The final declaration was made at the conclusion of the assembly, highlighting the efforts and achievements of the meeting.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, a framework document detailing the institutional structure and operational mechanisms of the GSNP was presented and subsequently adopted through a voting process. This document is expected to guide the future operations of the platform.
The assembly, held at the Gulustan Palace as part of Baku Urban Week, saw participation from representatives of NGOs from over 110 countries. These regions span Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific basin, which collectively represent 80% of the world’s population. The gathering aimed to foster discussions and collaborations among these diverse regions.
Throughout the day, the General Assembly featured various panel discussions, providing a platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas. A significant part of the assembly’s agenda was the election of the Secretary-General, who will serve a five-year term, along with four deputies representing the different regions of Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific basin.
