Fernando Alonso Extends Aston Martin Contract Until 2027

Silverstone:Fernando Alonso has confirmed he will continue with Aston Martin into the 2027 Formula 1 season, putting an end to speculation about his future.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Alonso’s previous contract with Aston Martin was set to expire at the end of the 2026 season. The two-time F1 champion had been uncertain about continuing, largely due to his dissatisfaction with the new regulations focusing more on electric power set for 2026. His decision to delay committing publicly was also a strategic move to apply pressure on Formula 1, following discussions with Stefano Domenicali and FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

Alonso, who joined Aston Martin in 2023 after leaving Alpine, expressed his satisfaction with the new contract. He highlighted his ongoing passion for racing and his belief in Aston Martin’s potential for success. “I’m very happy to sign a new contract with Aston Martin,” Alonso said. He emphasized his commitment to the team and his enthusiasm for the sport, driven by the support of the fans.

Since joining Aston Martin, Alonso’s performance has seen highs and lows. He started with a strong record of six podium finishes in his first eight races, but the team has struggled since then. This season, Aston Martin ranks 10th in the standings with only three points, all earned by Alonso, and sits just above newcomer Cadillac.

In addition to Alonso’s contract extension, Aston Martin also announced that Lance Stroll will continue with the team, marking his ninth season with Team Silverstone since moving from Williams.
