Fenerbahce Edges Stuttgart 1-0 in UEFA Europa League Match

Baku: Fenerbahce defeated Germany’s Stuttgart 1-0 in the UEFA Europa League’s third week at Chobani Stadium. The only goal of the match came in the 34th minute from a penalty kick converted by Kerem Akturkoglu, securing the 1-0 victory for Fenerbahce.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the game featured several high-stakes moments. In the 48th minute, Stuttgart’s attack nearly resulted in a goal when Mittelstadt crossed the ball to Bouanani, whose shot was blocked by a sliding intervention from Fenerbahce’s Alvarez.

Two separate penalty decisions by referee Jakob Kehlet were overturned following Video Assistant Referee (VAR) reviews. In the 60th minute, a penalty awarded to Fenerbahce after Nene went down in the box was canceled for offside. Six minutes later, a penalty given to Stuttgart after Stiller was fouled was also overturned by Kehlet after viewing the play again on the pitch-side monitor.

Stuttgart made a final push in the 82nd minute, but Deniz Undav’s shot off a pass from Tomas went wide of the goal. The match saw an accumulation of yellow cards, with six given to Fenerbahce players-Alvarez, Semedo, Oosterwolde, Skriniar, Duran, and Ismail Yuksek-and three to Stuttgart players: El Khannouss, Stiller, and Deniz Undav.
