FAO Highlights Role of Innovation for Azerbaijani Farmers

Accra:In 2025, 645 million people faced hunger, and approximately one-third of the world’s population could not afford a healthy diet, as stated by Nasar Hayat, the Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Azerbaijan. He shared these insights during an event dedicated to World Food Day.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Hayat emphasized that the challenge is not merely a lack of knowledge or technology, as many solutions already exist. The critical issue is making these solutions accessible and affordable for those in need.

For Azerbaijan, there are important questions regarding how farmers can use water more efficiently, adapt to changing weather conditions, and protect their crops while accessing better markets. Agriculture remains a cornerstone of livelihoods in Azerbaijan, yet the country faces challenges such as limited water resources, rising production costs, and climate change impacts.

Innovation, including advanced irrigation systems, timely weather information, and improved farming practices, can help address these challenges. Hayat noted that innovation need not involve complex or expensive technology; even simple solutions that save water or reduce waste can be effective if they work under real conditions.
