Baku: The Baku Military Court convened on Thursday to hear the harrowing testimonies of victim Karim Novruzov, shedding light on the brutal attacks by Armenian armed forces on the village of Bash Guneypeye in the Aghdara district during the months of September and October in 1991. These attacks led to the tragic deaths of several villagers, including Goshun Abdullayev, a WWII veteran born in 1910, and Hamza Alakbarov, among others.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Novruzov recounted the final and most devastating attack launched by Armenian forces on March 12, 1992. This assault targeted five villages in the Aghdara district, with Bash Guneypeye facing severe encirclement and bombardment from tanks and heavy artillery. Novruzov described the Armenian soldiers as being heavily armed, wielding assault and sniper rifles, as well as machine guns.
In a poignant testimony, Novruzov revealed that his father, brother, other family members, and a childhood friend were all martyred on March 12, 1992, as they bravely attempted to protect the village’s innocent civilians. Despite negotiations with Vitaly Balasanyan, the Armenians refused to return the remains of Novruzov’s father and others, leaving their final resting places unknown.
Novruzov further detailed the brutal murder of five of his family members by Armenian militants during this tragic incident. The ongoing trial seeks justice for Armenian nationals accused of numerous severe offenses, including crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, acts of terrorism, genocide, and violations of the laws and customs of war, all linked to Armenia’s military aggression.
