EU Official Highlights Role of AI in Early Cyberattack Detection

Baku:Artificial intelligence technologies hold the potential to enable government agencies to detect cyber threats at an earlier stage and improve their response to security incidents, according to Maryam Haji-Ismayilova. She is an official responsible for international assistance and cooperation at the Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan and made these remarks at the 8th Summit of Information Security Leaders.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Haji-Ismayilova stated that AI can assist organizations in quickly identifying threats, prioritizing security vulnerabilities, and responding more effectively to incidents. She explained how AI can analyze unusual activities, such as logins outside normal working hours, suspicious data transfers, or multiple failed login attempts, and send alerts to security teams for further action.

Haji-Ismayilova also noted that while AI-generated alerts can be useful, they may not always be accurate. She stressed the importance of treating automated analysis as an enhancement to human expertise rather than a replacement. Furthermore, she emphasized the necessity of verifying AI-generated results, clearly defining decision-making responsibilities, and maintaining alternative defense mechanisms to ensure robust security measures.
