‘ENGRAM’ Exhibition Unveiled at Museum of Azerbaijani Painting

Baku:The ‘ENGRAM’ exhibition has been inaugurated at the Museum of Azerbaijani Painting of the XX-XXI Centuries, showcasing an array of artworks from private collections that span the history of Azerbaijani art from the 1950s to the present. This event is organized by YARAT Contemporary Art Space.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the exhibition was attended by Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and Alena Aliyeva, who viewed the displayed works.

Curators Aida Mahmudova and Farah Alakbarli have brought together pieces that highlight the significant artistic and cultural transformations impacting Azerbaijani culture through the 20th century and continuing into today. The exhibition embodies the concept of ‘ENGRAM’—a physical trace preserving memory—by using painting to manifest both individual perception and historical experience.

The exhibition emphasizes the development of Azerbaijani art during various transitions, illustrating how traditional visual languages are maintained, challenged, and evolved. It also delves into the act of collecting as a preservation of memory, with each collection reflecting personal visions of artistic worth, brought together to create a dialogue within the exhibition space.

Featured artists include Aida Mahmudova, Altay Sadigzade, Abdul Khalig, Ashraf Murad, and many others, with the exhibition presenting diverse forms such as painting, graphic art, and sculpture. Complementing the visual art, AISEL performed ‘SUBLIMINALS A Manifestation Experience,’ offering a unique musical dimension to the event.
