Elchin Amirbayov Highlights Strategic Role of South Caucasus at Antalya Diplomacy Forum

Baku: Elchin Amirbayov, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Special Assignments, emphasized the emerging opportunity for the South Caucasus to reestablish its strategic importance on the global stage. Speaking at a panel session during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Amirbayov highlighted the potential of the region to serve as a crucial strategic bridge for global connectivity.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Amirbayov pointed out that past conflicts had kept the South Caucasus out of international focus for an extended period. However, he believes that the current environment presents a unique chance to restore the region’s strategic significance. Strengthening stability and involving international actors in ongoing processes could significantly boost the region’s resilience.

Amirbayov stressed the importance of translating ideas discussed with international partners into tangible outcomes for success. He noted that investment in the region’s connectivity should not only focus on infrastructure projects but also on promoting peace, long-term stability, and resilience.

He identified geopolitical competition and varied perceptions among different actors as major risks in achieving these goals. Amirbayov stated that Azerbaijan’s aim is to ensure that no project is perceived as opposing any party’s interests. He advocated for a ‘win-win’ approach and expressed hope that more partners would participate in these initiatives, which could also benefit parties not directly involved.

Amirbayov concluded by noting that the results of these efforts would become more apparent over time. He added that Azerbaijan’s infrastructure projects over the past two decades have primarily been achieved through internal resources and collaboration with strategic partners.
