Discussion on Amendment on Azerbaijan’s Constitution is Not on Agenda

Baku: Information has recently been released on the adoption of a new Constitution in Azerbaijan, holding a referendum during this year, sources in government told APA. There is no such issue on the current agenda of Azerbaijan.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, there is no discussion on making amendments to the Constitution on the agenda. “We are not preparing for such an amendment. We don’t know the purpose of the discussions held at the level of some MPs and the necessity of the information either,” a source said.

Note that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev declared this year the “Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty” in the country. The reason for declaring the “Constitution and Sovereignty Year” was indicated in the decree of the head of state.

“Taking into account the full restoration of our territorial integrity and sovereignty as one of the goals proclaimed by our Constitution, the 30th anniversary of the adoption of our Constitution and the 5th anniversary of the victory in the Patriotic War in 2025, in accordance with paragraph 32 of Article 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, I decree to declare 2025 the ‘Year of Constitution and Sovereignty’ in the Republic of Azerbaijan,” reads the Decree.
