Ankara: The bloody intervention of the Soviet Union could not stop Azerbaijan’s independence movement, stated Turkish Nationalist Movement Party leader, Devlet Bah§eli, during a party group meeting, APA reports. Bah§eli highlighted the significance of January 20 in the collective memory of the Turkish nation, marking it as a day intertwined with deep pain and suffering.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Bah§eli delved into the historical context of the January 20 tragedy, commemorating the victims of what is known as Black January. He articulated that despite the armed intervention’s tragic impact, it failed to thwart the Azerbaijani Turks’ pursuit of independence. Bah§eli emphasized that the day stands as a symbol of the heavy price paid by the Azerbaijani people for their sovereignty.
Bah§eli also referenced the 44-day Patriotic War of 2020, which he described as a manifestation of long-awaited freedom and justice. The war, he noted, symbolized the culmination of years of patience and faith, further solidifying the enduring spirit of the Azerbaijani independence movement.
