Baku: Azerbaijan is among the select few countries that offer comprehensive broadband internet coverage across its entire territory, as stated by Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Samaddin Asadov during a press conference at the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25). Approximately 2.6 billion people worldwide still lack internet access, a concern that WTDC-25 aims to address by enhancing connectivity and narrowing the global digital divide.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Deputy Minister Asadov emphasized that Azerbaijan’s achievement in providing 100% broadband internet coverage allows it to serve as a regional exemplar, sharing its expertise on a global stage. The conference will adopt a global digital development roadmap for 2026-2029, identifying new regional initiatives and telecommunication priorities. A particular focus will be on enhancing digital capabilities in least developed countries, landlocked states, and small island developing states.
The deputy minister also noted that WTDC-25 offers a unique platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences. It brings together government representatives, ICT industry leaders, and international organizations to discuss new technologies and advanced practices. This presents an invaluable opportunity to bolster Azerbaijan’s digital capabilities and solidify its position as a technological leader in the region.
