Deputy Ecology Minister Highlights Rising Heatwaves and Floods in Azerbaijan.

Baku: Azerbaijan faced unprecedented floods, according to Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, Umayra Taghiyeva. She addressed this issue at a High-level event on Strengthening Climate Information and Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems for Increased Resilience, which was held in Baku as part of COP29.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Taghiyeva revealed that while 147 incidents were recorded in Azerbaijan last year, the number has already reached 109 this year. She emphasized that heatwaves have also increased in the country. Despite the rise in the number of hot days, there has been a significant decrease in emergency medical calls compared to previous periods, which she attributes to increased public awareness. Taghiyeva stressed the irreversible nature of climate change and the importance of developing Early Warning Systems to mitigate its impacts.
