Baku:When discussing the decarbonization of Azerbaijan’s energy sector, it is crucial to consider the country’s economic realities, stated MP Nigar Arpadarai during her speech at the 9th Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Dialogue.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Arpadarai highlighted that Azerbaijan’s oil and gas industry is integral to the nation’s economic history and has significantly influenced its industrial potential, energy infrastructure, and international economic relations. She emphasized that decarbonization should not be seen as abandoning the traditional energy sector but instead transforming it into a more efficient and sustainable model.
Arpadarai pointed out the importance of developing renewable energy sources and diversifying electricity generation as key areas for focus. She also stressed the need for the decarbonization of the oil and gas sector and highlighted SOCAR’s critical role in this process. Additionally, she underlined the necessity of improving energy efficiency, noting that the energy transition should also focus on more efficient energy use in consumption, buildings, transport, and industrial processes.
