CICA Set to Reap Rewards of Transformation Ideas Tossed Around at Baku Forum

Baku: The Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is poised to benefit from the transformative ideas discussed at the recent think tank forum held in Baku on September 9-10. Madina Igibayeva, a military-political analyst from the CICA Secretariat, conveyed this optimism, as reported by Trend News Agency.

According to Trend News Agency, Igibayeva made her remarks during the 13th Meeting of the CICA Think Tank Forum, themed “Resonance of Development and Security: Regional Cooperation and Governance in the Institutional Transformation of CICA.” The forum was a platform for a diverse array of ideas and professional proposals aimed at evolving the CICA into a fully-fledged international organization. She highlighted discussions about the new headquarters inaugurated in July by Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokaev and emphasized that all transformation ideas would be considered in future planning.

Igibayeva also expressed her gratitude to the forum’s organizers, notably the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies and the Center for the Analysis of International Relations, for their efforts in facilitating the event.

CICA was first proposed at the 1992 UN General Assembly by Kazakhstan’s then-President Nursultan Nazarbayev. The organization’s foundational texts, the Declaration on Principles Guiding Relations between CICA Member States and the Almaty Act, were approved in 1999 and 2002. These foundational texts guide relations between member states, and CICA has been embraced by Asian nations as a framework for regional cooperation.

The Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), established in 1960, is a government-associated think tank. It focuses on research in international politics, economy, security, and China’s foreign policy, providing strategic research and policy recommendations for over six decades.
