Azerbaijani delegation led by Chairman of Azerbaijan`s Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev has participated in the International Chief Justice Forum under the theme ‘Strengthening Democracy Through Constitutional Jurisdictions: Past, Present and Future’ in Jakarta, Indonesia, dedicated to this country`s 20th anniversary of the Constitutional Court. The visit was organized at the invitation of Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia Anwar Usman. President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo delivered a video message at the opening of the forum. The discussion focused on the endeavour of constitutional courts in exercising its jurisdiction over the years, how they evolve and progress along with the socio-political dynamics within their countries and beyond. The theme was divided into two sub-themes: The evolving role of constitutional jurisdiction in upholding democracy throughout history and current challenges and future directions for strengthening democracy through constitutional jurisdictions. Addressing the forum, Farhad Abdullayev highlighted the activities of the Constitutional Court in Azerbaijan and legal positions reflected in a number of adopted decisions. Azerbaijani delegation also held business meetings with their foreign counterparts.
