Baku: Over 6,200 tankers have successfully delivered oil transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline to global markets since its inception. Approximately $30 million was allocated for operating expenses and $28 million for capital expenditures in the first quarter of this year, totaling $58 million for the BTC oil pipeline, as reported by APA-Economics based on BP’s Azerbaijan activities report for the first quarter of 2026.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the BTC pipeline, spanning 1,768 kilometers and operational since June 2006, has transported approximately 626 million tons-over 4.7 billion barrels-of crude oil. This oil has been loaded onto 6,210 tankers at Ceyhan for global distribution. In the first quarter alone, around 6 million tons, equivalent to about 49 million barrels, of crude oil and condensate were exported via BTC, loaded onto 65 tankers at the Ceyhan terminal, and dispatched.
The BTC pipeline primarily carries oil from Azerbaijan’s Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) and Shah Deniz condensate fields. It also transports regional crude oil and condensate from the Caspian region, including Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, as well as other volumes produced by SOCAR in Azerbaijan.
