Baku: bp announced the completion of a social investment project focused on publishing three forward-looking books in Azerbaijani, addressing open science, artificial intelligence, and the clean energy transition. The initiative is part of bp’s commitment to supporting education and capacity building in Azerbaijan, contributing to the country’s energy transition.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the project resulted in one newly developed book and the Azerbaijani translation of two internationally recognized works. “12 Modules for Learning Open Science” introduces principles of open science, aiming to enhance understanding of global best practices. Co-authored by Ilgar Orujov, Ruslan Rahimli, and Manuela Hargassner Delpos, it encourages the use of open research data in education and research.
“In AI We Trust: Power, Illusion and Control of Predictive Algorithms” by Helga Nowotny, translated into Azerbaijani, explores the societal impact of artificial intelligence. The book promotes informed discussion on AI among Azerbaijan’s scientific community by examining its social, ethical, and institutional implications.
“The Clean Energy Transition: Policies and Politics for a Zero Carbon World” by Daniel J. Fiorino, also translated, offers insights into achieving a clean energy transition. It focuses on decarbonization pathways and emphasizes the need for strong policy frameworks, supporting students and professionals interested in energy policy.
Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli OBE, bp vice president for the Caspian region, emphasized bp’s focus on education and knowledge sharing. He stated that these publications, though covering different fields, aim to address modern challenges through sustainable development. The project, costing 152,938 AZN ($90,000), was implemented by The Azerbaijan Young Scientist, Doctorate and Master’s Society Public Union.
