BP Begins Offshore Construction on Shah Deniz Compression Project

Accra:BP has announced the completion of the installation of offshore tubular piles, marking the beginning of offshore construction work on the Shah Deniz Compression project.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, four tubular piles, which will serve as the foundation for the platform’s jacket, have been transported offshore and installed using the Khankendi subsea construction vessel over recent weeks. Each pile measures approximately 70 meters in length, 108 inches in diameter, and weighs 292 tons, making them the largest-diameter tubular piles BP has ever placed in the Caspian Sea.

The installation process employed a specially designed 188-ton subsea support frame to ensure the piles’ stability and vertical alignment. Additionally, BP introduced pile plug technology for the first time in the region as part of this operation.

These developments represent a significant step forward in the Shah Deniz Compression project and set the stage for the next major milestone—the installation of the platform jacket, which is planned for the first half of 2028.
