Baku:Around 160 schools in Northern Ireland were targeted with bomb threats sent via email on Monday, leading to several evacuations and school closures.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Northern Ireland’s Education Minister, Paul Givan, stated that the emails claimed explosive devices were planted in school buildings and made references to Islamic law. Although the threats were not considered credible, they resulted in significant alarm and disruption.
Schools such as St Colman’s Primary School in Lambeg and Greenisland Primary School were among those evacuated in response to the threats. The Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed receiving reports of these threatening emails and is conducting urgent investigations.
Authorities, including the Northern Ireland’s Education Authority, are working closely with police while providing guidance to schools. They continue to support school leaders, staff, pupils, and families during this time. The origin of the emails is still unknown, and similar threats were reported in schools in the Republic of Ireland the previous week.
