BEU Students Showcase Innovative Projects at UN World Urban Forum

Baku: Students from the Design Department of the Architecture and Construction Faculty at Baku Engineering University (BEU) have successfully implemented a series of design and applied projects showcased at the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13). The projects were developed under the supervision of Senior Lecturer Anar Asadov by students Mohtasham Eldarov, Zahid Khankishiyev, Laman Safarli, Fidan Mammadzada, Nigar Shahvalad, Aydan Musayeva, Asmar Mirzazada, and Aziza Azizova.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the student projects included a video installation titled ‘Time Travel,’ which highlighted Baku’s urban development and architectural changes from 1880 to 2026 through visual presentations. This project garnered significant attention for its innovative portrayal of the city’s transformation.

In addition to the video installation, the students designed eco-friendly bench concepts for urban settings. These benches feature solar panels for energy harvesting, nighttime lighting, USB charging ports, and ergonomic designs suitable for all age groups. The benches successfully combine modern functionality with aesthetic appeal for contemporary urban environments.

The students also contributed to the forum’s navigational elements by designing and producing Totem and Lollipop-type informational signs in various sizes and formats. These elements were intended to guide forum participants effectively. Other applied works by the students enhanced the overall visual environment of the forum.

Furthermore, BEU was represented at the ‘Urban Expo’ within WUF13, where the university showcased innovative conceptual projects. These projects, themed ‘A Traditional and Organic Approach to the City Model of the Future,’ allowed students to apply their theoretical knowledge on an international stage, providing them with invaluable experience.
