Baku Steel Company Expands Environmental Efforts with 3,000 Tree Planting Initiative

Baku: ‘Baku Steel Company’ CJSC (BSC) has implemented a program focused on environmental protection, green area expansion, and biodiversity preservation. As part of this initiative, approximately 3,000 trees, including olive trees and the rare Eldar pine, were planted on a 5-hectare area in the Mushfigabad settlement of the Garadagh district.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the tree-planting campaign was organized in collaboration with ‘Azerbaijan Greening and Landscape Construction’ OJSC, under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The planted trees are projected to absorb about 48 tons of carbon dioxide annually and produce thousands of cubic meters of oxygen, significantly contributing to carbon footprint reduction and air quality improvement.

The environmental benefits are substantial, with olive trees absorbing approximately 38 tons of CO2 and Eldar pines absorbing around 10 tons annually. This initiative aids in mitigating climate change effects, enhancing air quality, and maintaining ecological balance. Trees also provide cooling effects and absorb harmful gases, reducing atmospheric dust and pollutants.

Over the last three years, BSC has planted around 5,050 trees, resulting in an annual absorption of about 86 tons of CO2. This includes previous plantings on the eve of COP29 and in honor of the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s birth.

In addition to tree planting, BSC is investing in clean production and environmental management technologies. Through collaboration with ‘AS Metals Technologies SA,’ the company upgraded its Gas and Dust Collection Unit in Baku, increasing filtration capacity and reducing emissions to meet international standards. The dust collection system also recycles waste, enhancing resource efficiency and environmental protection.

BSC remains committed to its environmental initiatives, aiming for a sustainable and green future.
