Baku:Major renovation and reconstruction works on the turnaround track at Hazi Aslanov station of Baku Metro CJSC have been completed. This project, part of AZCON Holding, involved comprehensive updates to enhance the metro’s operational efficiency and safety.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, the recommissioning of the turnaround track will lead to the discontinuation of shuttle train operations on the Hazi Aslanov-Ahmadli section in the coming days. The train operations on the Icherisheher-Hazi Aslanov section will revert to the pre-renovation schedule. During peak hours, trains will run at 2-minute intervals, and at other times, the intervals will be 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
The structural insulation of the turnaround track, originally constructed between 1981 and 1987, had deteriorated due to groundwater and soil erosion. The comprehensive reconstruction involved dismantling and rebuilding all infrastructure, except the ceiling, along the 1 km track. Each track was extended by 20 meters to accommodate six-car trains.
Reinforcement works included grouting at a depth of 1.5-2 meters to mitigate groundwater impact. New concrete structures replaced the side and central walls, and anti-corrosion measures were applied. For the first time, carbon fiber materials were used to enhance the ceiling’s durability.
Additional improvements included a reinforced floor covering, a new track bed, and the replacement of wooden sleepers with ballastless tracks. Six new track switches were installed, and a modern conductor rail was introduced to save electricity and simplify maintenance. Communication, power supply, and other essential systems were renewed to ensure passenger safety and comfort.
The project aligns with the State Program for 2025-2030, aiming to modernize an essential section of the metro and ensure quality, safety, and longevity in passenger transport. A media tour was organized to showcase the completed work to journalists.
