Baku Initiative Group Maintains Support for Independence Movements in Overseas Territories

Baku: The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) has affirmed its ongoing commitment to supporting independence movements in colonial territories and clarified its stance concerning France’s overseas territories. In an exclusive statement to AZERTAC, BIG Executive Director Abbas Abbasov rejected claims of inactivity or targeted actions against France, emphasizing that the group’s establishment was rooted in the aspirations of representatives from the overseas territories themselves.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Abbasov stated that the BIG’s activities are independent of French-Azerbaijani relations and are focused solely on their mission to support the fight against colonialism under international law. He reiterated that the organization does not target any specific country and operates strictly within a legal framework to aid those struggling against colonial rule.

Abbasov highlighted the BIG’s collaboration with nine of France’s eleven overseas territories, assuring that this cooperation will persist on an international scale. As an international non-governmental organization, BIG remains committed to providing support without being influenced by the policies of any particular state.
