Baku: The motion submitted by the investigative body to extend the duration of the preventive measure chosen in the criminal case initiated by the State Security Service (SSS) against former Head of the Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev has been considered, APA reports. Today, at the Sabail District Court of Baku, the period of house arrest imposed on Ramiz Anvar oglu Mehdiyev was extended by four months.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Ramiz Mehdiyev has been charged under Articles 278.1 (acts aimed at seizing state power), 274 (treason), and 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained through criminal means) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. On October 14, 2025, the Sabail District Court of Baku city selected house arrest as a preventive measure for Ramiz Mehdiyev for a period of 4 months. The court granted the motion regarding Ramiz Mehdiyev, who is charged with particularly grave criminal acts, and ordered a preventive measure of house arrest for a period of 4 months.
In addition, within the framework of the criminal case, Ali Karimli, the chairman of the Azerbaijani Popular Front Party (APFP), Mammad Ibrahim, a member of the party’s Presidium, former head of the Secretariat of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, and former employee of the Presidential Administration, Eldar Amirov, as well as Editor-in-Chief of the Hurriyyet newspaper and Hurriyyet TV, Vugar Mammadov, have been arrested. Yesterday, the court extended the periods of detention previously imposed on them accordingly.
Note that R. Mehdiyev served as Head of the Presidential Administration from 1995 to 2019.
