Baku: Azercosmos, the pioneering satellite operator in Azerbaijan and the region, has announced its capability to launch a satellite into orbit at 46 degrees east longitude. This development marks a significant milestone in the technological and economic landscape of Azerbaijan. Dunay Badirkhanov, Acting Chairman of the Board of Azercosmos, emphasized the strategic role of the Azerbaijan Space Agency during the event “Opportunities from Space: 10 Years of Our Space Observation’s Contribution to Socio-Economic Development,” as reported by APA-Economics.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Azerbaijan’s satellites currently provide extensive services beyond national boundaries, covering regions across Africa, Europe, and Central Asia. These services encompass telecommunications, broadcasting, and internet provisions. Azercosmos is also engaged in Earth observation services that support innovative projects in various sectors including agriculture, environmental protection, emergency management, and more. Such efforts have positioned Azerbaijan as a reliable partner in the international satellite market.
Azerbaijan’s unique orbital position in space permits the country to launch a satellite whenever necessary, highlighting its status as one of the 48 nations with access to this exclusive space resource. Over 50 countries and more than 200 companies are beneficiaries of Azerbaijan’s satellite services. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of Azercosmos’ presence in the African market, showcasing its expanding influence.
Furthermore, Azercosmos has ventured into exporting intellectual products within the space sector, as stated by D. Badirkhanov. This move signifies the agency’s commitment to not only enhancing satellite services but also contributing intellectual advancements to the global space industry.
