Ankara: Azerbaijan’s State Statistical Committee, led by Chairman Tahir Budagov, is actively participating in the 14th session of the OIC Statistical Commission, held from October 1-3 at the SESRIC Headquarters in Ankara, Turkey.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, during the second day of the session, an employee from the committee delivered a report focusing on the modernization of Azerbaijan’s national statistical system through digitalization. The report emphasized initiatives such as the expansion of electronic services, digitalizing data dissemination, improved use of administrative data, leveraging large-scale and satellite imagery data in official statistics, and the digitalization of the agricultural census.

The 14th session is also addressing activities conducted since the previous session and the implementation of the OIC-StatCom Programme of Action for 2021-2025. Discussions are underway on several technical themes, including the OIC-StatCom Programme of Action for 2026-2030, the role of National Statistical Offices in supporting data-driven energy transitions, and the modernization of NSOs through digitalization. Additionally, there is a focus on sustainable development goals, specifically monitoring and reporting on SDG 4, which pertains to quality education indicators.

The OIC-StatCom, established by the Istanbul Declaration of the 2010 Meeting of the National Statistical Organisations, offers a platform for OIC Member States to exchange experiences, share good practices, and enhance institutional capacities in official statistics. The Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) functions as its Secretariat, facilitating coordination and promoting collective initiatives to improve the quality, comparability, and availability of statistics across the OIC.
