Azerbaijan’s SBS Detains 20 Foreigners for Border Violations Last Month


Baku: Azerbaijan’s State Border Service (SBS) reported the detention of 20 foreigners in the past month for violating the state border.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, a total of 27 individuals were apprehended in May for illegal border crossing, as stated by the Press Center of the SBS. Among those detained were 7 Azerbaijani citizens, and foreign nationals included 5 from Iran, 5 from Afghanistan, 5 from Pakistan, 3 from Morocco, 1 from Yemen, and 1 from Sri Lanka.



Efforts to combat illegal migration led to the detention of 8 individuals attempting to cross the border using forged documents. Additionally, 780 people were detained for breaching border regime rules, with appropriate measures enacted against them. The SBS also detained 328 individuals wanted by law enforcement, handing them over to the relevant authorities. Furthermore, the exit from Azerbaijan was prohibited for 499 people, and entry was denied to 20 others.



In the fight against the illegal trafficking of narcotics, the SBS seized 291 kilograms and 941 grams of narcotic substances, along with 564 pills classified as strong drugs. Measures against smuggling activities led to the discovery of contraband goods valued at 3,793,325 manats. These included ammunition for an “Astra” brand pistol, medicines, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco products, all of which were confiscated.



The SBS continues to implement strategies to ensure the secure protection of Azerbaijan’s state borders.
