Azerbaijan’s Parliament Speaker Engages with Pakistan Senate Chairman


Baku: Today, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan, met with Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, Chairman of the Senate of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, who is visiting Azerbaijan to participate in the international parliamentary conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on the topic ‘The Constitution as the Foundation of States’ Independence and Sovereignty in the Modern World’.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting underscored the significance of the international parliamentary conference, highlighting the Constitution’s vital role in fortifying the legal framework of the state, fostering societal progress, ensuring political stability, and safeguarding citizens’ rights and freedoms.



The discussion also brought attention to Azerbaijan’s recent restoration of its territorial integrity and sovereignty following the end of Armenia’s 30-year occupation, a result of Azerbaijan’s Victory. It was noted that President Ilham Aliyev’s decree naming 2025 as the ‘Year of Constitution and Sovereignty’ holds considerable political importance and symbolic significance.



The historical friendship and brotherhood between Azerbaijan and Pakistan were acknowledged, with a particular emphasis on the pivotal role played by the leaders of both nations in enhancing these relations. The collaboration of their legislative bodies, both on a bilateral level and across different platforms, was commended for its contribution to strengthening bilateral relations.



The meeting also reflected on the Third Trilateral Meeting of the Speakers of the Parliaments of Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Trkiye, which took place earlier this month in Islamabad. The outcomes of this meeting were highly valued, with recognition of its substantial contribution to the further expansion of interstate relations.
