Baku: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced that the country’s generation capacity now constitutes approximately 10,000 megawatts. This announcement was made during his speech at the opening ceremony of the 240 MW ‘Khizi-Absheron’ Wind Power Plant.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, President Aliyev highlighted that the upgrade, modernization, and development of Azerbaijan’s energy system have been identified as top priorities in recent years. He noted that over the past 20 years, the country’s energy system has undergone a complete renovation, including generation capacities, large-scale substations, and transmission lines. The generation capacities have increased by about three times compared to the entire previous period.
President Aliyev emphasized that the current generation capacity of 10,000 megawatts marks a historical record for Azerbaijan. He also pointed out that with new renewable energy generation capacities planned for the coming years, this figure is expected to rise further. This growth will enable Azerbaijan to meet the growing domestic demand and expand its electricity export capabilities.
