Azerbaijan’s AZANS Participates in CANSO’s 3rd Summit of Air Navigation Providers in Almaty

Almaty: Azerbaijan Air Navigation Services Department (AZANS) of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), a company under AZCON Holding, represented Azerbaijan at the 3rd Summit of the Heads of Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) of the International Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO) for Europe and Asia. The summit was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, according to a source in Heydar Aliyev International Airport as reported by Trend News Agency.

According to Trend News Agency, The event convened top ANSP leaders to discuss the development of safe, efficient, and coordinated airspace management in the region. The inaugural summit of this nature was organized by Azerbaijan in 2023 in Baku.

Civil aviation remains a fundamental component of the global transport system, with ANSPs playing a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective management of air traffic. During the summit, the AZANS delegation engaged in strategic discussions focusing on regional flight safety, digitalization, the application of innovative technologies, and enhancing coordination among ANSPs.

AZANS’s participation underscored its significant role in fostering a safe and coordinated regional airspace and demonstrated Azerbaijan’s dedication to innovation and collaboration in the aviation industry. In recent years, the rise in transit operations has enhanced Azerbaijan’s strategic importance in the global aviation sector.

In 2024, approximately 50 million individuals passed through Azerbaijan’s airspace via 230,000 operational transit flights. The integration of bilateral and regional collaboration, technological advancements, and modern infrastructure-driven airspace management has transformed Azerbaijan into a crucial regional hub, promoting sustained air connectivity with Central Asia.

The establishment of Fuzuli, Zangilan, and Lachin international airports, equipped with advanced communication, navigation, and surveillance systems, marks significant progress in this strategic development. These advancements enhance Azerbaijan’s geopolitical and economic position, supporting its role not only as a transit hub but also as a facilitator of regional air linkages.

AZANS, collaborating closely with international organizations and partners, contributes to creating a unified and contemporary air navigation infrastructure in the region. It continues its dedication to developing a safer, smarter, and more interconnected Eurasian sky in partnership with regional and global stakeholders.

Established in 1996, AZANS manages air traffic control within Azerbaijan’s 165,400 square kilometers of airspace, which includes 86,600 square kilometers of land and 78,000 square kilometers over the Caspian Sea. Azerbaijan, as the easternmost member state of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), shares its northern and eastern boundaries with Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Russia, and its southern boundary with Iran. To the west, it borders Georgia, Armenia, and Turkey, forming a complex geopolitical setting.
