Azerbaijani-Turkmen Relations Reach New Level of Strategic Partnership: PM

Ashgabat: Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have reached a new level of strategic partnership, as highlighted by Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov. Asadov emphasized the deep historical roots and spiritual and cultural values that underpin the traditional friendly and fraternal relations between the two nations. His remarks were made during a plenary session at an international forum in Ashgabat, dedicated to the ‘International Year of Peace and Trust (2025),’ International Neutrality Day, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.

According to Trend News Agency, Asadov noted the dynamic development in the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in recent years. He attributed this progress to mutual visits and meetings between the leaders of both countries, which have opened a new chapter in their relations, elevating them to a strategic partnership. The visit of the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to Azerbaijan in July was particularly significant, contributing greatly to this development. Additionally, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s working visit to Turkmenistan for a high-level trilateral meeting with Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan was an important platform for expanding regional cooperation.

The International Forum in Ashgabat, which marks the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, has drawn high-level delegations from various countries, including the Presidents of Russia, Trkiye, Iran, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Armenia, as well as the Prime Ministers of Azerbaijan and Georgia. Representatives from numerous international and regional organizations are also in attendance.

Turkmenistan’s commitment to neutrality was recognized by a United Nations General Assembly resolution on December 12, 1995. This date is now celebrated annually as Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality Day, reflecting the country’s stance in global diplomacy.
