Baku: Azerbaijani representative Fuad Karimli has been elected as the Secretary-General of the Global South NGO Platform (GSNP) during the Baku Urban Week. This election marks a significant leadership change, with Karimli set to chair the organization for the next five years. Prior to this role, Karimli contributed to the GSNP Secretariat, bringing valuable experience to his new position.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the elections also resulted in the appointment of regional deputies. Mithika Mwenda from Kenya will serve as Deputy Secretary-General for the Africa region, while Bobur Bekmurodov from Uzbekistan will represent the Asia region. Luis Gallegos from Ecuador has been chosen for the Latin America region, and Cecile Guidote-Alvarez from the Philippines will represent the Pacific region. These appointments highlight the GSNP’s commitment to diverse regional representation and collaboration across the Global South.
