Azerbaijani President Highlights Italy’s Importance in Oil and Gas Exports

Baku: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev emphasized the significance of the Italian market in Azerbaijan’s oil and gas exports during a joint press statement with Italy’s President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni. “For us, the Italian market is of primary importance for both oil and gas. Last year, Azerbaijan exported 25 billion cubic meters of natural gas, of which 9.5 billion were exported to the Italian market,” said President Aliyev.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, discussions are currently underway to increase the volume of natural gas exports to Italy. President Aliyev noted that this expansion would require further development of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project, which is a key component of the Southern Gas Corridor. The TAP project has already been expanded to some extent, but efforts to increase its capacity continue.
