Baku: Farhad Badalbeyli, People’s Artist and rector of the Baku Music Academy, has proposed creating a film-opera adaptation of the classic ‘Leyli and Majnun,’ APA reports. He made the suggestion during his speech at the international forum ‘The Legacy of Uzeyir Hajibeyli: From the Past to Today,’ held as part of the 17th Baku International Music Festival.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Badalbeyli addressed Abdulhakeem Alsenana, director of ISESCO’s Regional Office in Baku, emphasizing the cultural significance of the work. He noted that ‘Leyli and Majnun’ is a treasure of immense value in Azerbaijan and questioned why it is not being utilized more broadly. He suggested that bringing this project to life could have a wide-reaching impact across the Muslim world due to its connections to both Azerbaijani and Arab history.
Badalbeyli expressed his belief that the film-opera could resonate particularly well in Arabic-speaking countries. The proposal aims to bridge cultural ties by producing ‘Leyli and Majnun’ in a format that would appeal to a broad audience, highlighting shared historical and cultural narratives.
