Azerbaijani Parliament Approves New Draft Law on Internal Troops

Baku: The Milli Majlis, Azerbaijan’s parliament, has adopted a new draft law titled “On Internal Troops” during its latest session. The legislation, comprising 6 chapters and 30 articles, outlines the roles, responsibilities, and operations of Azerbaijan’s internal troops. It aims to safeguard the constitutional structure and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, while also maintaining public order and security. Additionally, the draft law establishes the legal framework for managing the internal troops.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, the draft specifies that civilian employees within the internal troops are governed by Azerbaijan’s labor legislation. Furthermore, any information regarding the service activities of the internal troops can only be released with the approval of the internal troops’ commander. The adoption of this law will result in the repeal of the existing “On the Status of Internal Troops” law, marking a significant update in the legislative framework governing Azerbaijan’s internal security forces.

The draft law was subjected to a parliamentary vote and successfully adopted in the third reading.
