Azerbaijani Parliament Advances New Draft Law on Internal Troops

Baku: The Azerbaijani parliament has taken a significant step by adopting a new draft law titled “On Internal Troops” in its first reading during today’s session of the Milli Majlis. This development was reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the new draft law comprises 6 chapters and 30 articles. It aims to outline the activities, rights, and obligations of the Internal Troops of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The law focuses on protecting the constitutional structure, sovereignty, and maintaining public order and security in Azerbaijan. It also establishes the legal framework for managing the Internal Troops.

The draft law specifies that labor relations for civilian employees within the Internal Troops will be governed by the labor legislation of Azerbaijan. Furthermore, the Internal Troops have designated educational institutions for personnel training, qualification enhancement, and research activities. Military personnel can pursue education in these institutions as per the educational legislation of Azerbaijan, and international agreements will facilitate their education in specialized institutions abroad.

Additionally, the draft law emphasizes the safety of military personnel and their families by prohibiting the dissemination of information about their service and residence in the media or on digital platforms. Any information regarding the service activities of the Internal Troops will require the consent of their commander.

Upon the law’s enactment, it will repeal the current “On the Status of the Internal Troops” law. The draft was successfully voted on and adopted in its first reading, marking a pivotal moment in the regulation of Azerbaijan’s Internal Troops.
