Mingachevir:Azerbaijan secured four medals during the initial day of the Mingachevir Regatta 2026, with competitions held at the Kondalanchay reservoir in Fuzuli.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the event was co-organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Water Sports Federation, featuring 200-meter kayak and canoe sprint events.
Alimurad Hajizade achieved gold in the men’s K1 (2008-2009) category, narrowly beating fellow Azerbaijani Nuran Rahimli, who claimed silver. In the C1 discipline, Huseyn Samadli earned a bronze medal in the same age group, while junior rower Elmir Taghiyev also won bronze in the K1 (2010-2011) event, marking a successful start for the host nation.
The international regatta hosts over 100 young rowers from 12 countries, including Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Tajikistan, T¼rkiye, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
