Azerbaijan to Launch Aghdam-Khankendi Railway and Khankendi Terminal in 2024

Baku: Azerbaijan Railways CJSC is set to open the Aghdam-Khankendi railway and the Khankendi Railway-Bus Terminal Complex next year. This initiative aims to enhance regional accessibility and expand the service network across Azerbaijan, as announced by Arif Aghayev, Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, during the commissioning of the Kurdamir station for passenger use.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC has been working on restoring routes and stations that were affected during the pandemic to ensure sustainable development in passenger transportation. In 2023, the Baku-Ganja-Baku route was extended to Aghstafa, and high-speed train services to Gabala were launched for the first time. The following year saw the introduction of new trains and an increase in services on the Baku-Aghstafa-Baku line, with additional stops at Leki and Ujar stations.

Arif Aghayev highlighted further expansions in passenger transportation in 2025, with the restoration of the Baku-Balakan-Baku route, and the resumption of the Baku-Gazakh-Baku and Baku-Aghdam-Baku routes. Additionally, the Ganja-Gabala-Ganja line was inaugurated. The upcoming year will witness the opening of the Aghdam-Khankendi railway and the Khankendi Railway and Bus Terminal Complex.

‘As a result of these measures, in 2025, Azerbaijan Railways achieved a milestone by transporting over 10 million passengers, underscoring our commitment to enhancing service quality and ensuring customer satisfaction,’ Arif Aghayev stated.
