Azerbaijan to Implement Measures for Cultural Heritage Compensation in Liberated Areas

Baku: Azerbaijan is set to take significant steps to address the damage to cultural heritage in its recently liberated territories. The government aims to enhance activities related to the protection of cultural heritage, including archaeological sites, and to raise international awareness of the damages incurred. Measures will also be undertaken to ensure compensation for the affected cultural heritage, as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, these initiatives are part of the ‘Azerbaijan Culture – 2040’ Concept of Culture, a strategic document approved by an order from President Ilham Aliyev. The plan outlines a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Culture, ANAS, the State Historical Agency, the Shusha City State Historical-Architectural Reserve, and other relevant state bodies. Between 2026 and 2030, these entities are tasked with analyzing the current conditions, organizing data, preparing and approving an action plan, and executing measures for the protection of cultural heritage. This initiative includes archaeological monuments and aims to integrate the results into the ‘e-culture’ platform.
