Azerbaijan to Free Up 700/800 MHz Bands in Border Areas with Iran for 5G Development

Baku: Azerbaijan is working to free up television broadcasting in the 700/800 MHz frequency bands in the border areas with Iran, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport said in response to APA-Economics’ inquiry.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, agreements were reached in the field of television and radio broadcasting during meetings held with the Iranian side in Baku on June 10-12.

The ministry explained that the main purpose of the agreements is the technical regulation of television and radio broadcasting. This move is intended to prevent mutual obstacles between broadcasting signals from both countries.

As part of these agreements, the initiative to free up television broadcasting in the 700/800 MHz frequency bands in the border areas with Iran aims to introduce and develop new generation mobile communication networks. It is important to note that the 700 MHz and 800 MHz frequency bands have historically been used for television and FM radio broadcasting. Globally, these frequencies have been allocated to mobile operators. The European Union and ITU (International Telecommunication Union) countries have designated these bands primarily for 4G/5G.
