Azerbaijan Showcases Tourism Opportunities at Tianguis Tur­stico M©xico


Acapulco: A delegation led by Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB), participated in the Tianguis Tur­stico M©xico 2026 held in Acapulco. The event was co-organized by the Mexican Secretariat of Tourism (SECTUR) and the Government of the State of Guerrero.



According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the Azerbaijani delegation engaged in discussions with Miguel Agu­±iga Rodr­guez, Head of the Unit of Innovation, Sustainability, and Professionalization in Tourism of SECTUR, and Juan Carlos Arno vila, Vice President for Foreign Relations of the Mexican Federation of Tourism Associations. The discussions focused on tourism cooperation opportunities, and both sides agreed to maintain contacts to develop future relations. Additionally, the Mexican side invited Azerbaijan to participate in the ITB Americas exhibition, scheduled in Guadalajara from November 10 to 12.



Azer Abasaliyev, Regional Manager for Europe at ATB, highlighted Azerbaijan’s tourism potential at an event organized by the National Association of Mexican World Heritage Cities (ANCMPM). He emphasized the inclusion of Icherisheher, the Maiden Tower, and the Shirvanshahs’ Palace Complex in the UNESCO World Heritage List. He also mentioned modern architectural landmarks such as the Heydar Aliyev Center and the Flame Towers, as well as destinations like Gobustan, the Ateshgah Temple, Sheki Khan’s Palace, and the village of Khinalig.



Abasaliyev further highlighted the declaration of 2026 as the ‘Year of Urban Planning and Architecture’ in Azerbaijan. He discussed the significance of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), to be held in Baku from May 17 to 22.



Supported by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Mexico, the national stand at the event featured photographs showing the blend of antiquity and modernity in Baku. It also showcased national souvenirs, traditional sweets, and promotional materials on Azerbaijan’s tourism potential and WUF13. The stand attracted considerable interest from participants.



The Tianguis Tur­stico M©xico is a key platform for presenting Mexico’s tourism opportunities to both domestic and international participants. It is considered one of the most important events in the country’s tourism sector. This year marked the 50th edition, bringing together nearly 2,500 participants from more than 90 countries, further expanding the exhibition’s scope.
