Baku: In the first half of 2025, Azerbaijan generated 12,953 million kWh of electricity, marking a 2.2% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this growth in electricity production highlights the country’s ongoing efforts to enhance its energy sector.
During the January to June period, 12,507.6 million kWh of the electricity produced was marketable output, reflecting a 2.1% increase. Thermal power plants contributed the largest share of electricity generation, producing 10,383.9 million kWh, although this was 0.5% less than in the same period of the previous year.
The remainder of the electricity generated came from hydroelectric power stations and other alternative and renewable energy sources. The data indicates a significant rise in production from hydropower plants, which saw a 17.9% increase, and solar power plants, which experienced a 19.3% rise. However, wind power plants saw a decrease in production, with a 27.1% reduction compared to the previous year.
The statistics underscore Azerbaijan’s diverse energy production strategy, balancing between traditional thermal power and alternative sources such as hydro, wind, and solar energy.
